Swinpex Meeting Report

Dave Howe writes...

SWINPEX 2007, on Saturday 9th June, held at the brand new, modern, light and airy St Joseph’s School in Swindon was the setting for our regional meeting of 2007.

With over 40 dealers in attendance the show was well organised by the Swindon Philatelic Society. Our editor Brian Cassidy was in charge of the Specialist Societies attending the show, setting up the PSSGB display, and organising the meeting room for us.

The canteen facilities were of a high standard and the prices very reasonable. Most of us had a bite to eat before the gathering.

The members present at the meeting were Alan Stevens, John Bevan and his wife Brenda, Harry Machin, Alan Hewitt, Tony Walker, Peter Allison, Bob Kingdon, Brian Cassidy, John Swade and David Howe. Other members at the show but couldn’t attend the meeting were Joe O’Brien and Mary Simmonds.

Peter Allison brought along some of his Chicago and Illinois albums, Harry Machin had several packet books for members to pick over (except those that Bob Kingdon had brought along for Harry to put on the circuit!)
Some trading took place (not all precancels) and much talking went on, with the newer members eager for information on precancels.

After the meeting most of us re-visited the main show looking for last minute bargains or back to the canteen for a cup of tea before the journey home, leaving Brian and the Swindon PS to re-organise the school ready for Monday morning!

All-in-all a very pleasant day out.
